about
This is a song about growing up in my home town Gimli, Manitoba. We moved from town to town, but would always go home to Gimli every summer. It was my paradise. I used to take my guitar to the main beach and docks and practice for hours. The first day someone threw some change at me. I didn't even know what busking was, I was just playing my guitar. So, I kept playing. Everyday people would throw change and sometimes a $5 or $10 in my guitar case. This was the summer of free slushies and movie rentals. All from playing guitar... something I was going to do anyway.
lyrics
I started working before I was thirteen; used to busk on the docks, down on Gimli Beach
Made enough every single day, to go to G & C, maybe rent a movie
This was summer every night and day, every day and night, it was a dream to me
I started working before I was thirteen; in a little prowler camper by the private beach
When I grow up I'll scream and yell
I strike and I strum this guitar
I'll play and I'll play until I die
That's a promise I made, since the day you were gone, oh yeah
A little older now, but not too wise, I keep strumming this guitar for some lonely eyes
Invite some friends down to moonlight bay, have a couple of brews, go swim in the sea
Oh, I never will forget those nights, how we lived every day, it was a dream to me
A little older now, but not too wise, down in Gimli south beach, on the private side
When I grow up I'll scream and yell
I strike and I strum this guitar
I'll play and I'll play until I die
That's a promise I made, since the day you were gone, oh yeah
I started working before I was thirteen; used to busk on the docks, down on Gimli Beach
A little older now, but not too wise, I keep strumming this guitar for some lonely eyes
